The Municipality of the County of Richmond and the Town of Port Hawkesbury have launched the Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence Business Case and Options Appraisal. Inspired by offshore wind research initiatives from other jurisdictions, the report was developed by AECOM, and it highlights potential paths forward for bringing offshore wind related research under one initiative with participation from researchers, industry, government, and local communities. It also proposes ways to achieve a sustainable governance and business model for such an initiative.
The strategy has been shaped by extensive stakeholder engagement across Nova Scotia, and the work has been overseen by a Project Steering Committee consisting of representatives from the Municipality of the County of Richmond, the Town of Port Hawkesbury, Potlotek First Nation, Net Zero Atlantic, Marine Renewables Canada, the Nova Scotia Department of Energy, and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
