The Municipality of the County of Richmond engaged CBCL Limited to complete an Extreme Storm Event Flood Hazard Mapping Study for the industrial areas of Point Tupper. The pilot study was undertaken to better understand potential coastal flood hazards associated with extreme storm events and future sea level rise, supporting informed decision-making and long-term planning for critical infrastructure and industrial development in the region. Building on the framework established through the Nova Scotia Municipal Flood Line Mapping initiative, the study incorporated site-specific conditions and evaluated a range of potential future scenarios, including extreme storm events, Hurricane Fiona-based scenarios, and projected sea level rise conditions for 2050 and 2100. The assessment applied a combination of existing data analysis and numerical modelling approaches to evaluate coastal water levels, storm surge, wave impacts, rainfall contributions, and potential flood pathways within the Point Tupper area.
